Google Pixel 5, What You Need To Know

Like any other big mobile manufacturer or Technology Company, biggest search engine Google also held its annual tech announcement event in fall season. This year Launch Night was held on 30th September, Wednesday and was streamed online due to pandemic. Google announced its all new premium Smartphone Google Pixel 5.

What is Google Pixel 5?

Google Pixel 5 is new Smartphone announced by Google on Launch Night but it’s not only the Smartphone, it is much more than that. Many android companies have already introduced their 5G Smartphone designs virtually, and also there is a rumor that upcoming model of Apple; iPhone 12 will also be 5G enabled. Google Pixel 5 is not only Google’s but overall first 5G Smartphone.

While developing Pixel 5, Google compromised the performance over the premium features to introduce such a unique piece in market in affordable rates.

Some are considering it an upgrade on the Google Pixel 4 on the other hand; some are saying that it is definite downgrade. Let’s have a complete look on it and decide what it actually is.

Design:

Google Pixel 5 will be available in only two but really decent and classy colors; Green and Black named as Sorta Sage and Just Black. Mobile phones with metallic bodies look very luxurious but are rare these days due to the fact that metallic body doesn’t support the most hyped technology of today i.e. wireless charging. Also metallic body provides low connectivity than glass body or plastic one.

So it is kind of surprising that 5G supporting premium Google Pixel 5 is made of Recycled Aluminum and also that older versions of Google Smartphones are made up of matte polycarbonate.

Despite the fact that Pixel 5Link icon has metal body, it still supports wireless charging. It is revealed by Android Central that wireless charging coil is not covered by metal body, instead there is a hole on the top of it and that hole is filled with a resin, that doesn’t affect connectivity, and is painted with color of mobile to cover it up.

USB-C port is at the bottom of the phone. Pixel 5 comes with built-in stereo speakers, but no 3.5mm audio jack is found in the box.

Dropping the 3D Face Unlock Technology used in Pixel 4, Google introduced fingerprint scanner in Pixel 5 which is at the back of the phone.

Pixel 5 weighs about 151 grams, has dimensions of 144.7 x 70.4 x 8mm which is a bit smaller and lighter than average Smartphones these days.

Is Pixel 5 Waterproof?

Yes, Google Pixel 5 is IP68 certified which means that phone is water and dust resistant. It can be used under 1 meter water for half an hour.

IP68:  IP is abbreviation for ingress protection. Number 68 is describing the level of durability of phone. Number 6 is indicating that phone is dust resistant and 8 is indicating that it can survive liquid pressure of 1 meter.

Display:

Google Pixel 5 offers a 6-inch Full HD display with a very fine, 432 pixels per inch resolution of 1080 x 2340. Always-on-display screen incorporates OLED panel.

90Hz technology is used, which means that refresh rate of screen will be faster and it will ensure smooth scrolling and transitions without using excessive power.

Specifications:

Whenever a new mobile is introduced in market by any of the leading brands, it is expected that it will be featuring the latest Operating system and chipset technology. Google disappointing this time is not featuring top-end chipset in Pixel 5. Instead, Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G processor is used, which will obviously a lack as compared to other newly introduced Smartphones.

Google used the latest and up to date operating system, Android 11 for pixel 5.

Phone comes with a fine 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Just like Apple, Google also followed no external memory policy this time, so Pixel 5 has no micro SD slot and you’re restricted to 128GB memory.

Google Smartphones usually don’t have impressive battery life but in the light of the fact that Pixel 5 is having 4,080mAh battery accompanied with wireless charging, so we can expect a good battery life. Google also incorporated a nice feature of reverse-charging called Battery Share which enables Pixel 5 users to charge supported devices.

5G connectivity of Pixel 5 is making it today’s hot topic, but to use this technology you need to have a 5G contract, and your area must have 5G connectivity.

Camera:

Google’s cameras are always the most noticeable feature. Google with its revolutionary cameras took Smartphone photography on next level.

This year, Pixel 5 is featuring a dual-lens camera system with primary 12.2-megapixel lens and secondary 16 MP ultra wide camera.

Google replaced telephoto lens with this ultra wide lens.  Pixel 5 is incorporated with Super Res Zoom technology, which uses artificial intelligence to zoom into the subject without losing its details.

Google added Night Sight to Portrait Mode and introduced a new Portrait Light feature which will help photographer to adjust the sharp light even after capturing.

Cost and Availability:

Pixel 5 will be available at $699 which is quite affordable than Pixel 4, which started at $799 and $899 for regular-sized model and larger XL version respectively. Pixel 5 will be in market by October 15, 2020.

Buy or Not?

If you’re excited about using 5G technologies and live in the area where 5G connectivity is available, then you can rely on Pixel 5 as it is the first Smartphone with this availability. Pixel 5 is an upgrade to Pixel 4 in many ways including its features but it’s a downgrade if we talk about chipset. Not using latest chipset is compromising the performance of Pixel 5. But at the same time it is flagship phone which is really affordable. So you can wait for it to be in market on 15th of October and get it for yourself or you can also pre order it.
